The dearly held and richly detailed film Braveheart is iconically represented in the 1995 theatrical film poster. Mel Gibson as William Wallace stands on the battlefield at Falkirk, gazing with fearless resolve in the direction of King Edward-plumes of smoke and fire billowing in the distance.

Designing the mosaic analog to this classic image was accomplished through thoughtful subdivision of the poster into 7 sections which were further anatomized into a total of 83 working sections with 15,000 individual stones.

Selecting the most uncanny match to the colors in the poster meant stone procurement from multiple continents… from Indonesian yellow onyx, to Chinese and Peruvian orpiment, to American jasper from Oregon-all possible stone options were considered.
